Purdue Student Legal Services (SLS) is a relatively new organization on campus that provides free legal advice and referrals to Purdue students. The service received permanent funding in the fall semester of the 2016-2017 school year and, under the direction of Leslie Charters, has successfully advised hundreds of students with their various legal endeavors ranging from landlord tenant issues to criminal cases. Leslie and the rest of SLS is often involved in other matters around campus to educate students about the law. This includes events like the housing fair, BGR, and the alcohol summit. The service is not just for students who are already experiencing legal troubles, as SLS will also evaluate a student’s lease agreement so they can better understand the agreement. The office of Student Legal Services is located in Schleman Hall, Room 207.
